A Dropped Object Awareness training course is a modular and flexible training package designed to raise awareness of dropped object prevention. It focuses on the basics of dropped object hazard identification, risk assessment, and effective risk management. The course is based on industry and DROPS Forum lessons learned and best practices. It covers topics such as understanding dropped objects and their terms and definitions, static and dynamic dropped objects, primary fixing and secondary retention, causes and causal factors, incident and alert reviews, control and prevention of potential dropped objects, roles and responsibilities in respect of potential dropped objects, maintenance and survey of objects, management of change, tools at height, and process safety. The course also provides a comprehensive suite of DROPS best practice materials and supporting presentations upon completion.
This half day course provides personnel with a thorough understanding of the potential hazards and management controls required to eliminate injury and damage from dropped objects.
The course combines classroom-based and practical learning, although the emphasis is on practical hazard identification using a purpose build hazard area scenario.
Certificates awarded after successful completion of the course will be valid for a three-year period after which re-certification must take place.
